4776. Marks, E. C. R., [Fire Fighting Apparatus Co.]. Feb. 26. Direct t gaspressure apparatus, no-n-automatic.- Relates to apparatus for expelling fire - extinguishing &c. liquid by means of compressed gas, of the kind in which the compressed gas is contained in a removable cartridge within the liquid container, and is released therefrom by the perforation of a sealing disk &c. The seal-perforating device comprises a shank x having an enlarged cutting-edge, which is simultaneously advanced and rotated by means of a screw v having a handle w. The sealing-disk j is secured between a soft-metal washer d and a screw-threaded plug f, which is recessed at the bottom to allow for the deformation of the washer d under pressure. The cartridge A is supported and prevented from turning by means of lugs 0, which rest upon shoulders formed by apertures Q in the cartridge chamber K, the inner walls of which are grooved vertically for the passage of the lugs. The cartridge is formed with a seamless gas-tight metallic lining 8 and an outer metallic casing 10 of cast metal. The main container is preferably of oval cross-section, so that two or more gas cartridges can be employed, and is cast from metal in one piece, the neck portion terminating in a flange or collar thicker than the walls of the container. The operation of the seal-perforating device is normally prevented by a forked plate 2, which embraces the screw v, and can be removed by breaking a wire or like connexion 3.
