3491. Brandenberg, H. Feb. 12. Theodolites.-The instrument is mounted on a spike driven into the woodwork or other suitable part of a mine, being held thereto by a conical clamping-piece 2 which engages, by means of a ball-and-socket joint at its other end, the spindle 10 of the instrument, which is surrounded by the sleeves 11, 12 of the graduated disk 16 and verniers 17 respectively, fine adjustments being provided in each case. The telescope 22 is mounted in a frame 21 supported from the main body of the instrument, and box levels 27, 28 are provided for accurate setting-up.
