Abstract
536. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Jan. 6. Band apparatus; block, rubber, and like apparatus. - Drawing-dies formed of diamonds and like hard materials are formed by grinding a smooth face on two pieces A, A<1> and cutting a groove across the smooth face of one of them ; the two pieces are then mounted in a setting with their smooth faces in contact and an alined groove is then cut in the second piece to complete the die orifice. In a modified method, the two pieces are first temporarily mounted with their smooth faces in contact, and conical depressions are formed in opposite sides for alinement. The stones are then taken apart. and semicircular grooves are cut across them, a piece of wire B being employed for maintaining alinement for final setting. The groove may be formed by a reciprocating weighted fine wire C passing through wiping-devices D containing abrasive material and over grooved wheels F. To round the edges of the holes, the die may be mounted in a chuck, and a wire passed through it, the chuck being moved transversely as it rotates.
