Abstract

384. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., and Pearce, H. Jan. 5. Inking-apparatus.-In printing-machines such as reciprocating flat-bed presses in which the rollers of the inking-mechanism rotate alternately in opposite directions, a rider roller 2 is adapted to contact with one of the inking-rolls, and two scraper blades 24, 25 are provided to scrape the ink off this rider roller and thus clean the whole inking-mechanism. These parts are mounted on frames 3 adjustably mounted on a shaft 6. The blades 24, 25 are mounted on levers 23 pivoted on shafts 7, 8 and loosely engaging rods 27 at the other ends, which rods are mounted in brackets 28 fixed to the shafts 7, 8 and carrying springs 31 connected to the levers 23, by which means the blades 24, 25 are yieldingly pressed against the roller 2 at such times as are determined by a cam 12 operating the shafts 7, 8 through the links shown. The roller 2 being in contact with one of the rolls 34, which in turn engages rolls 35 that run on the bed 36, draws all the ink from the other parts of the inking-apparatus. The ink scraped off by the blades 24, 25 is deposited in the troughs 32 connected together by pipes 33.
