Bottles, washing. - In bottle-washing machines of the kind in which the bottle is gripped and revolved by driving and bearing rollers while in contact with stationary internal and external brushes, the bearer rollers and preferably also the external brushes are mounted so that, by actuating a single member or part of the machine, they may be all brought simultaneously into their acting and non - acting positions. The bottle is placed over the fixed internal brush f<2> with its neck in contact with a rotary head c<3>, which, together with the brush, is carried by a bracket d adjustable in the slotted end wall of the tank. The pivoted end brush t is then raised from an horizontal position against the action of the spring w into the vertical bottle-contacting position, as shown. This movement raises a pivoted frame o carrying the three external brushes s and the two pairs of bearing- rollers i into the acting position. The frame o is connected adjustably to the end brush at x and to a pair of vertical rods at r<3>. These vertical rods are adjustably mounted in a member m which is secured to the wall of the tank and also forms a bearing for the shaft of the fixed driving-roller g. The external brushes are mounted on transverse members of the frame o and are arranged as shown in Fig. 3. Two pairs of bearing-rollers i form with the driving-roller a three-point-support for the bottles. Each pair of rollers is resiliently mounted on a block j, carried by a trough-shaped transverse member l of the frame o. When the bottle has been rotated by the driving-roller for a sufficient length of time, the end brush is moved back again to its horizontal position, thus withdrawing the bearing- rollers and external brushes and facilitating the removal of the bottle. To suit bottles of varying length, the brush t may be pivoted in any one of the slots u<2>.
