Abstract

129,287. Schmidt, E. A. Aug. 1, 1917, [Convention date]. Crates and cases, cleaning-apparatus for.- Bottle crates &c. are cleaned by passing them through a machine in which they are brushed externally, overturned, and then swilled out by highpressure jets of water. The crates 43 with their mouths leading are carried forward on guides 2 by chains 34, and enter between rotating rollers on shafts 12, 14. The upper of these shafts can give vertically in order to accommodate crates of varying size. The four sides of the crates are washed and brushed externally by cylindrical brushes 15, 16, 17 fed by water through pipes 35. The crates then overturn due to the form of the guides 2, and are pushed forward by reciprocating rods 33 so as to come over jets 37, 39 and under a bottom-cleaning brush 27<1>. The tank 3 is divided by an overflow partition 42 to prevent mixture of the comparatively clean rinsing water and that falling from the brushes 15, 16, 17.
