The rods are connected either directly to a flexible band member n forming or carrying the tread, or, as shown, through intermediate plate spring members m. The springs m may be fixed rigidly to the band or have a pivoted or pin-and-slot connexion o; or they may be continued at m<1> to form sections of the band member n. Fig. 2 shows a means of adjusting the tension of the helical springs in which the outer end of the spring is seated in a cup r screwing on a block s fixed to the rod.
