Abstract
191,138. FouchÚe, E. Oct. 4, 1921. Buoyancy motors.-In apparatus for utilizing the energy of waterfalls of the kind in which a float rising and falling in a reservoir operates a piston in a cylinder to deliver water into a storage reservoir, twin reservoirs are provided each having a float, the floats acting in opposite directions so as to maintain a constant supply to the storage reservoir, the admission to, and discharge of water from, the float reservoirs being controlled by a double slide valve 1<1>, 1<11>. The valve-controlled chambers e<1>, e<11> are connected to one float reservoir, and the chambers f<1>, f<11> to the other, and the spindle of the valve is operated by a piston 3 supplied with compressed air under the control of a valve 4 governed by a lever 6 actuated by members 7, 8 carried by one of the floats. In a modification for use with variable heads, one of the floats carries a switch G<11>, Fig. 4, controlling the operating-mechanism I<2> of the double slide valve, this switch being reversed at the ends of travel of the float by contact with thrust-blocks e<111>, e<4> supported by Boats arranged in two tubes, one of which is connected to the head race and the other to the tail race.
