Abstract
118,204. McCallum, C. Nov. 29, 1917. Self-driving machines.-A pair of cylindrical tanks A, B communicating with each other at the bottom contain water and a pair of hollow plungers A<1>, B'. The plunger B<1> is about half as deep as the plunger A<1>. A duplicate pair of cylinders C, D contains similar plungers C', D'. The short plungers B<1>, D' are connected by connecting-rods L to opposite ends of a rocking beam N, and each long plunger A<1>, C<1> is similarlv connected to a ratchet feed P or Q for a common shaft M. A transverse lever R or S bearing a load R<3> or S<3> makes pin-and-tappet connexion between the ratchet P or Q and the corresponding end of the rocking beam N. The top of the shorter plunger B<1> or D' is connected to the containing cylinder by a flexible envelope F or G. The rocking beam N contains a heavy rolling weight O. A starting and stopping lever V is provided.
