Abstract
29,020. Browne, F. G. April 11, [Convention date]. Hulls, cleaning mechanically. - Relates to apparatus for cleaning ships' hulls, of the type having a casing containing a motor which actuates brushes working against the side of the vessel. The machine is maintained against the ship's side by a propeller, and the invention consists in entirely and adjustably suspending the machine from a punt or lighter situated to one side of the ship. The watertight receptacle a contains an electric motor driven by power supplied by the wires d<1>. Brushes j<1> on radial arms are driven through gearing from the motor which also drives the propeller c. The lower brushes j<1> are adjustable by means of the slot k<1>. The whole machine is suspended by means of the stud rings a<1> from a derrick on a punt or lighter, whereby the machine may be moved along horizontally and lowered when it is desired to clean a further portion of the hull.
