Abstract

25,331. Compagnie Internationale d'Electricite Soc. Anon. Feb. 1, [Convention date]. Lighting and heating systems.-The dynamo of a lighting system is provided with three field windings consisting of a normal shunt winding, a winding carrying the load current, and a winding carrying the battery current arranged to oppose the first two windings when the battery is being charged and to assist them when the battery is being discharged. The winding carrying the load current may be divided into several parts arranged to be connected in series or parallel. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the dynamo 1 is provided with a shunt field winding 41, a field winding 5 carrying the load current, and a field winding 4 carrying the battery current. When applied to a two - battery system, the usual cut - out switch, battery changeover switch, and resistance between the batteries are employed. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, a resistance 10 is placed between the dynamo and the lamps, this resistance being short-circuited when the lamps are supplied from the battery. A resistance 23 and switch 22 are also provided, by means of which the battery may be charged when the lamp load is off. In a further modification, the dynamo is divided into two parts, or provided with two commutators, to obtain a greater voltage across the battery than that across the lamps.
