Abstract
23,835. Brock, F. A. Oct. 27. Pyrotechnics.-Relates to pyrotechnic compositions designed for the production of an intermittent .or repeat effect, and consists in mixing with any well-known composition a relatively large proportion of sulphur, or other slowly burning substance. On ignition, the sulphur in the exposed layer of the mixture is first burnt away, and the composition then ignites. A fresh layer is thereby exposed, the composition in which again ignites after the sulphur has been burnt out of it. The operation may be repeated any number of times. The intervals between the successive ignitions of the composition may be regulated by adjusting the amount of sulphur used. An example is given in which a known flash composition containing 25 per cent of strontium nitrate, 2À083 per cent of barium nitrate, 6À25 per cent of powdered aluminium bronze, and 16À666 per cent of powdered magnesium, is mixed with 50 per cent of powdered sulphur.
