Abstract

18,510. Jones, H. Sefton-, [Clark, E. W.]. Aug. 16. Bolts. - A flexible stay - bolt for securing the fire-box of a boiler to the head or shell thereof comprises a stem 10 formed with semiglobular heads 11, to which a pair of thimbles 7, 14 are secured by swaging. The thimble 7 has the form of a tube with a central partition 8, a n d i s swaged in the boiler head or shell 5. The inner thimble 14 has a reduced end screwed into the fire-box wall 17, or it may be of the same form as the outer thimble 7. Small spaces 19, 20 are left between the parts to allow slight relative movement, but relative rotation is prevented by angular lugs 9 engaging similarlyshaped sockets 12. In a modification, only the outer thimble is used, the stem 10 having a thread at its end screwing into a tapered hole in the wall 17.
