Pack-saddles; fastening.-The strains of a Maxim or like gun and the tripod when carried on the back of a horse for field purposes are equalized by connecting one end of the girth b by rivets, stitching, &c. to a stay c on the gun hanger, Fig. 2, and passing the girth over a stay d on the pack a, down behind the gun, around the horse's belly, and up to a stay on the tripod hanger, to which it is secured by a buckle &c. The gun and tripod can be readily removed without detaching any of the fastenings.
