Abstract

15,371. Trottier, R. E. July 6, 1910, [Convention date]. Upward-current classifiers; washing-apparatus with screens.-An apparatus for classifying solid bodies, particularly ores, comprises a series of inclined sifting-surfaces oscillated in water, receiving compartments beneath the sifting-surfaces, and means for classifying by successive subsidence the materials carried by the water and escaping previous classification. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 3, the material is fed at 36 to a sifting-surface supported in a frame 3, which is oscillated with a slow rising motion and quick return by means of a cam 33. The descent of the lever 30 is arrested by a stop 34, and may be accelerated by springs. The links 5, 7 and the point 29 are adjustable. The sifting - surface consists of inclined sieves 1 and shelves 2, beneath which are arranged channels 35 and baffles 40. The heaviest materials advance on the screen and fall into the hopper 17, lighter materials fall into the hoppers 18, 19, while the dust and refuse pass an adjustable ledge 37 and fall into the hopper 20. By graduating the mesh of each sifting-surface and dividing the hoppers 18, 19 into compartments, materials of different volumes in each specific gravity may be separately collected. Light materials are carried along by the water, and are deposited in hoppers 16, 15, 14 to which water may be admitted through pipes 41. Each of the hoppers 14-20 may be discharged automatically by means of a receiver 45 flexibly connected to the hopper at 46 and provided with a valve 47, which is normally held closed by means of links 48, 49 and a spring 50. When the receiver 45 is full, the weight of the material causes the receiver to fall and the valve to open.
