Telescopic umbrellas &c.-Relates to umbrellas &c. of the type comprising a telescopic staff and handle, ribs consisting of inner and outer telescoping sections, and means for holding these sections in extended relation connected to stretchers pivoted to the runner. Sticks.-The staff and handle comprise two hollow members 1, 3 which are held extended by means of a spring-member, Fig. 4, provided with a U-shaped fingerhold 5, members 7, 8 which grip the interior of the tube 3, and a stop 9 for preventing the fingerhold from entering the staff during manipulation. The staff may comprise more than two telescoping members. Ribs and stretchers.-The outer rib section 15 slides within the inner section 14, a holding- member provided with collars 18, 19 being connected to the section 14. The ends of the collar 19 are bent into the channel of the section 15 and co-act with a stop 21 thereon, Fig. 3. To the arms of the collars 18 are pivoted the stretchers 12, the off-sets 13 of which press lugs 23 on the sections 15 into recesses 22 on the sections 14 when the umbrella is open and the ribs extended. Runners.-The runner 10, Fig. 1, is formed with a spring catch 11 to adapt it to the varying diameter of the staff. Holding open.-The runner is held in its upper position on the tube 3 by the fingerhold 5 of a device, Fig. 4, similar to that used for holding the two sections of the staff extended. Covers.-The cover is attached only to the top-notch 16, Fig. 1, and to the lower ends of the rib sections 15.
