Abstract

13,951. Bennett, G. A. June 12. Composite shoes; renewable treads.-A steel or like shoe A<2>, Fig. 4, of stamped trough formation is filled with wood, leather, fibre, &c. C, for example ash wood soaked in tar oil, which projects beyond the edges of the shoe, and is conveniently in two or more dovetailed pieces secured to the shoe by countersunk screws D. The surface of the wood is covered by a series of removable studs E, Fig. 5, secured by prongs E<1>, or by screws &c. One or two flanges E<2> are preferably arranged to overlap the edges of the shoe trough, and the studs may be interchangeable and be provided with convex and concave curves at their ends so that they may lie closely together in knuckle-joint fashion. The front central stud may be provided with a projecting toe-clip, and the heel-studs may be of the form shown in Fig. 7, in which flanges E<5> embrace the end of the shoe trough. A rubber or like washer may be interposed between the studs and the wood. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 46/74, 4290/75, 3428/82, and 9864/88.
