Stationary heated ironing-blocks.-A flat last for ironing stockings, having a general resemblance in outline to the foot and leg, contains a coil of piping through which a heating- fluid is passed. The last a has perfectly flat parallel sides with slightly rounded edges, and is preferably formed by pouring upon a continuous copper pipe b a mass of metal or other non-combustible in a fluid state. The bottom plate c is screwed to a bench, and the ends of the coil are connected to two pipes e, f, of which one communicates with a steam-generator and the other with an exhaust pipe. The last is composed, as to shape, of three portions, namely, the foot o and wide and narrow portions of the leg p, q, and the stockings are ironed, without the use of a flat-iron, by placing them over the heated last.
