Furs and furriery.-A pelt-combing machine comprises an endless comb 13, a yielding pressure roll 27 mounted above the comb, and a duct 25 with a perforated surface 24 through which the foreign matter and loose hair pass. The comb may have teeth of two or more different lengths 10, 11, Fig. 4, the teeth having heads or being formed integrally in pairs, as shown in Fig. 5. They are passed through section plates 17, by which they are secured to the power-driven wheel 13. The teeth are inclined away from the direction of rotation, as shown by the arrow, and the pelt is passed backwards and forwards over the comb, the operator standing at the end 22 of the machine. The presser 27, consisting of a fur-covered roller, optionally padded, is suspended by rods 31 from a cross-bar 33, the lowest position cf which may be altered by changing the height of an abutment block upon which it rests. The downward pressure may be aided by weights or springs 41, and a guard 26 protects the operator's hands from contact with the comb.
