Resistances.-A heater consists of a flat or similar resistance and a heat-conductor in the form of a wide spiral, the resistance being secured to one end of the spiral and drawn tight, so that it is in close contact with one face of the spiral. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a disk a is formed with a spiral projection b, to which a resistance e in the form of wire woven with asbestos is secured, and insulated by mica sheets. The groove formed by the spiral may be filled in with cement. In a modification, a strip of metal with a strip of woven resistance insulated on each side with a sheet of mica, is wound to form a spiral, and is secured by soldering or bolting to an article to be heated.
