Locking nuts.-A dished washer for locking nuts is formed with radial slots B, Fig. 2, so that, when the nut is screwed down, the bore of the washer is contracted and grips the bolt. The outer part of the washer is formed with spring tongues C which spring up against the sides of the nut. Fig. 1 is a section of the washer. Figs. 9 and 10 show a form in which the washer is inverted and the tongues are modified. To unscrew the nut, the tongues are pressed down by the spanner.
