Abstract
10,004. Bowman, N. K. April 25. Operating swinging doors.- A mine door operated by a passing vehicle comprises two oppositely opening leaves 1 connected by arms 4 and link 5 so that the opening of one leaf causes the simultaneous opening of the other. A car approaching from either direction opens the doors by depressing a rail 9, which is connected by links to arms 12 on a series of rock - shafts 10. The shafts 10 are further connected together by arms 15 and links 17, and are also connected by a link 18 to a bracket 19 on one leaf of the door. The doors are closed by the combined action of a weighted lever 20 on one of the rock-shafts 10 and a spring 6 connected to the link 5 and to the fixed door frame, the arrangement being such that the leverage of the weight increases as the tension of the spring decreases, so that the effective force on the door remains about constant.
