Abstract

9844. Bollee, A. April 23, 1910, [Convention date]. Dash - pots. - Consists in means for automatically reducing the play in a valve-gear between the cam 4 and valve spindle, comprising a cylinder 6 containing liquid which is forced in and out by the motion of a piston which allows slow leakage. The piston is forced out quickly by the motion of a spring 8, but its inward motion relative to the cylinder is very slow owing to the closure of a non-return valve 10. The piston may be valveless, and a non-return valve suitably arranged in a passage into the cylinder. In a modification of the apparatus shown in Fig. 2, the piston is hollow, is provided with perforated ends 15, 16, and inner partitions 25<1>, 26 to prevent the liquid from forming an emulsion. The cylinder is enclosed by a flexible cover 25 secured to the piston-rod and cylinder, and the valve consists of a spring blade 21.
