Abstract

9340. Thornton, J. T. April 15. Cleaning internally, rotary appliances for.- The water-tubes 4, Fig. 1, of a boiler are kept clean by helical brushes 5 of wire &c., connected to floats 6, directly in the case of vertical tubes, and by levers 7 in the case of inclined tubes. Movement of the float due to fluctuasions in the water level gives the brush an endlong movement. In addition, the helical form of the brush causes rotation by the connection current through the tube. Cleaning externally.-The exteriors of the flues are kept clean by metallic meshwork or chains 9, Fig. 2, moved by floats 10, which are constrained to move vertically.
