Treadle mechanism of the kind in which treadle-levers impart motion to a sprocket or like driven wheel through one-way clutch mechanism, the levers being intergeared by bevelwheels. The levers 4 are secured respectively to an inner shaft 5 and to an outer shaft 6 fitting over the first shaft within the frame bearing 2, engaging and disengaging means, such as pawls 16, being arranged to act upon the two sides of the wheel for transmitting the drive from the respective levers, and the bevel-wheel returning-gear 20, 21, 22 being disposed to one side of the machine frame. To limit the stroke of the treadles one of them is provided with spring-controlled pins 25 which at the ends of the stroke come into contact with lugs or projections upon the frame. The wheels 22 are carried by a bracket projecting from the part 9 of the frame bracket 2.
