Abstract
5069. Thomas, E. W. Feb. 28. Detachable - rim attachments to wheels.-In means for attaching to a wheel a rubber tyre 8 secured to a metal ring 7, the rim of the wheel is formed with one or more gaps to allow circumferential adjustment within the tyre. A wedge-block 4 is fitted within the gap, and may be secured by means of bolts 6 engaging flanges 5 'on the rim. The rim may tend normally to expand or contract, the spokes being slightly non- radial in the contracted position in either case. Fig. 4 shows a modified construction of wheel in which the rim is formed with webs slotted at 13 to facilitate the necessary distortion in manipulating the tyre. Stiffening-wedges may be fitted in the slots. A rim carrying a pneumatic tyre may be similarly secured.
