4601. Marks, E. C. R., [Jensen, C.]. Feb. 23. Bush-extractors. - In bush - extractors of the type having a threaded spindle passing through a bridge-piece adapted to abut against the device from which the bushing is to be extracted, and a nut screwing thereon for effecting longitudinal movement of the spindle and withdrawal of the bushing by means of an abutment carried by the spindle, a shouldered block is loosely inserted in a recess in the spindle and is adapted to engage in a slot or aperture of the bushing. As applied for extracting the piston bushings h of rock drills or the like, the block e is cut away at the top to form a shoulder f and tongue k and is bevelled at the bottom to engage a corresponding slot in the threaded spindle d. In operation, the end of the latter is inserted within the bushing and the block e is inserted from the outside through an opening in the piston or other part containing the bushing, the shoulder f engaging the slot g therein. During the process of extraction the lip of the slot bears against the tongue k and prevents the block from being pulled out.
