Liquid and gaseous fuel furnaces.-A furnace for use in connection with the cementation, case-hardening, annealing, melting, and forging of metals consists, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, of a chamber 19 having arranged on one or more sides rows of burners 21 supplied with fuel in equal quantities from branched pipes communicating with pipes 22, 23 for fuel and air under pressure respectively. Within the hearth 14, which may be formed in one piece or of a number of blocks as shown, tapering passages 16 are arranged opposite the burners and communicate with the chamber 19 through openings 20.
