Abstract
1740. Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co., and Wright, W. Jan. 23. [Cognate Application, 9738/11.] Locking nuts.- In a detachable wheel in which the outer hub a carries a nut c, which screws on the inner hub b, the nut is locked by a spring- pressed piece d carrying teeth d<2>, engaging teeth on the nut, which may be forced inwards to disengage the nut when the wheel is being mounted or dismounted. The piece d fits within the inner hub, or an extension thereof, and has teeth d<3> to prevent it from rotating therein. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the piece d is limited in its outward movement by a bolt f screwing into a cap e secured to the inner hub by studs. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the bolt f fits into the extension b<4> of the inner hub on which the nut c is screwed. The nut may be rotated by a spanner h having a bridgepiece j, Fig. 4, through which screws a plunger operated by the handle j<2> or having cams h<4>, Fig. 7, operated by the handle h<3>, to force the piece d inwards.
