Sulphuretted dyes are obtained by heating 1:5-dinitroanthraquinone or the crude dinitroanthraquinone obtained by nitrating anthraquinone, or the reduction products of these bodies, with alkali polysulphide until the product is insoluble in aqueous alkali sulphide solutions. The process is preferably effected under pressure. The products dye olive-brown tints from a hydrosulphite vat. Specification 15,242/95 is referred to.
