Abstract

1675. Stark, J. M., and Turner, T. L. May 21, 1910. Capsules, applying.-Crown cork capsules are fed from two magazines to a slide which reciprocates and places the capsules one by one over bottle mouths ready for sealing. Capsules 15, Fig. 4, in magazines 16 are caught by spring fingers 54 attached to slides 52, which descend and bring the capsules on to spring catches 34 in a horizontal slide 18. This slide is operated by a rack 20 and pinion 21. As one capsule is brought central ready to be placed on a bottle, another capsule is being brought down from one or other of the magazines. The catches 34 for holding a capsule are kept in place by springs 37, Fig. 10, until a bottle neck is forced upwards between them. The spring fingers 54, Fig. 6, engaging the capsules may be held together for a portion of their upward movement and closed on their downward movement to release a capsule by a movable sleeve 58 provided with collars 60, which engage a frame 59. The capsules are held in the magazines by spring studs 40, Fig. 4, which are pressed aside by the fingers 54, but which snap back after their passage. Specification 12,415/10 is referred to.
