752. Bausman, A. L., and Kihlgren, T. Jan. 11. Disk and like mills.-A machine for grinding chocolate &c. consists of a rotary toothed disk i. Figs. 2 and 3, and a pair of stationary toothed disks j, k having inlet openings at or near the axis of the disk i, through which the pasty material is introduced under pressure by pipes w, x leading from a pump y. The supply-pipes are fitted with valves 8, 9 which are adjusted so that equal quantities of the material are supplied to opposite sides of the disk i. The shaft h, which carries the member i, is supported in adjustable split taper bushings 10, 11, and is driven by spur gearing f, g from the driving-shaft d. The supporting-members o, m to which the disks j, k are bolted, are provided with cooling-chambers p supplied with water &c. by pipes q, r, and the outer member o, which is spaced from the inner member m by means of distance tubes 4' on the supporting-bolts 7<1>, is pressed towards the disk i by springs 5 on bolts 4. Each disk is provided with concentricallyarranged V-shaped teeth 30 cut transversely by radiating right-angular shaped grooves 31. The teeth 30, Fig. 5, point in opposite directions on opposing disks, and have their inclined edges chamfered so as to subject the chocolate &c. to a pinching or squeezing action. Pockets 32 near the centre of the disk i catch and retain any foreign substance contained in the material to be ground.
