Abstract

171. Biggs, G. T. Jan. 3. Mud-guards.-Consists in means for mounting, over the wheels of a vehicle, mud-guards of the kind in which the guard is made in two pieces joined together at the top, and carries a strip of rubber &c. hanging nearly to the ground to prevent side-splashing. As applied to a back wheel, the guard a, Fig. 5, that surrounds and encloses the wheel, is adjustably secured by means of the brackets f to a bar r bolted to the axle. As applied to a steering- wheel, the plate d, Fig. 4, is provided with a radius slot l which is engaged by a stud k fixed to the axle, and the plate is formed with jaws h<1> which fit round the boss of the wheel lever i. The plate is connected by a link o to the steering-rod n so that the wheel and the plate turn in unison.
