Abstract

191,068. Kurz, O. March 7, 1921, [Convention date]. Supporting and controlling arrangements for collectors; trolly heads; conductors and supports, arrangements of with respect to track; systems adapted specially for alternating current. - A trolly head for trackless vehicles with overhead supply comprises two or more telescopic tubes 15, 16, 17, Fig. 1, rotating in a bracket 26 and provided with ball bearings 24, 25, each tube carrying an axle 21, the wires 1, 2, 3 of the supply system being engaged by pairs of wheels 19 carried by a frame 18 mounted so as to slide and rotate on the axle 21. Duplicate wheels 27 may also be provided for use with points &c. Instead of a grooved wheel, a cylindrical contact roller with lateral guide rollers or slide plates may be used. Springs 22, 23 connect the tubes together, tending to keep the trollies erect and also to distribute evenly the strains due to the flexible connection from the plug 56 to the vehicle. This cable 32, Fig. 4, is secured to the bracket 26 by a spring 55 and plug 59, and also by a safety member 58 so as to form a cable loop 32', the member 58 breaking and the plug 56 being disconnected before the cable is injured. The bracket 26 is so designed that the resultant force R intersects the plane of the wires between the top and bottom wires, this result being maintained when the vehicle moves laterally by a tube 34 sliding from a tube 33 fixed to the vehicle and connected to the cable drum, which may be spring-operated. Specification 176,769 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the tension of the cable 32 may be kept constant by passing it over fixed pulleys 47, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), and movable pulleys 48 restrained by springs or by a rope 50 under tension passing over the pulleys 48 and fixed pulleys 49, the free end of the rope 50 being acted on by a constant force. The forces acting on the pulleys 48 may increase towards the fixed end of the cable 32, such as by arranging the pulleys 48, 49 so that the angle made by the rope 50 increases, this rope being payed-out from a drum. The supply system consists of multiphase current transmitted by the multiple overhead lines. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
