Abstract
29,122. Hope, V. Dec. 15. Fusible cut-outs.-Relates to fusible cut-outs of the type described in Specification 3883/10, in which multiple fuse wires are arranged in grooves formed upon the periphery of a divided hollow carrier provided with a cushioning- chamber and surrounded by a cover-tube, and consists in arranging in such a fuse a metal of low fusing-point, for instance tin, in the form of a strip D<1>, Fig. 1, in contact with the central parts of through fuse wires C of metal of high fusing-point, for instance copper, the strip being connected to the fuse terminals by binding-wires C<1> partly surrounding the edges of the central strip touching the main fuse wires at their points of crossing and connected at the ends to the fuse terminals. A central tooth a<6> on the carrier serves to locate the ends of the tin strip. In action, the tin strip fuses first, and the current is carried completely by the middle portions of the main fuse wires, whereupon the fuse blows in the central part. In its complete form, the fuse is shown in Fig. 3 with main end contacts G and fuse wires passing through nozzles E which serve to deflect the gases from the grooves a<1> into the cushioning-chamber a4. A form of fuse with a hand shield is also described in which the fuses are passed through central metal nozzles in the end caps and gripped between two washers.
