Abstract
28,253. Hirth, C. A. June 6, [Convention date]. Linear - dimension gauges.-Relates to internal gauges, and consists in accurate indicating - mechanism therefor. The gauging- means consist of a pair of fixed studs d on a casing a and a sliding stud c bearing against a lever g hung on a knifeedge. The end of the lever bears against a longitudinal rod h, which carries a plunger i bearing against a spring stud k connected with a suitable indicating-device b. An eccentric spindle m allows adjustment of the indicator after a standard gauge - piece has been fitted at the ganging end. A finger-lever n, pivoted to the casing a and bored to give passage to the rod h, enables the plunger and rod to be lifted when inserting the gauge. To centralize the gauge when in use, and to determine the depth at which the measurement is taken, a conical collar p is fitted to slide on the casing a, to which it is clamped by a pair of spring-pressed levers q pivoted to the collar. For narrow gauges, a modified form of plunger f and lever g may be employed, as shown in Fig. 3, to actuate the longitudinal rod.
