27,491. Glover, T. Nov. 25. Ball-and-socket joints provided with passages for two or more independent supplies of fluid. A socket 8 with central opening 9 and lateral opening 10 is secured to a plate 3 with passages 6, 7 to which the supply pipes 4, 5 lead. A hollow hemisphere 15, with a stem 16 held in place by a cap 14, has a passage 18 communicating with the central opening 9 through a spring-pressed tubular member with a hemispherical end 22 fitting the half-ball 15. A second passage 19 in the member 15 communicates through the recess 13 with the passage 10. The passages 18, 19 lead to the exit pipes 21, 20, which may be secured to a suitable intermediate member 17. In a modification for three independent supplies, the cap 14 screws to the socket 8, the bolts and flanges being omitted, and is embraced by a second hollow hemisphere held in place by a cap similar to the cap 14. The stem of the ball 15 fits within the stem of this additional hemisphere, and the third supply pipe communicates through passages in the plate 3, and socket 8, with a passage similar to the passage 19, in the additional hemisphere, which leads to the third exit pipe. A further modification applicable to either of the above forms consists in omitting the socket 8, suitably dishing the plate 3, and connecting the cap 14 directly thereto.
