Abstract

27,334. Hodgkinson, T. Nov. 24. Composition fuel. - Paper is mixed with potato peelings or parings or other vegetable or fruit refuse, a carbonaceous powder, and an inflammable binding-material such as gas-tar, pitch, or resin; a little crude petroleum or other hydrocarbon may be added to assist the mixing. The paper is boiled or steamed, ground in a mortar mill with about an equal weight of vegetable or fruit refuse to .form a plastic mass, which is ground with an equal amount of coal dust, and then mixed while warm with 10 per cent by weight of Trinidad pitch and 10 per cent of gas tar, and pressed into blocks. The coal dust may be largely replaced by coke dust or coke breeze, and sawdust or other waste combustibles may be added.
