Combing-machines.-In a Heilmann combing- machine of the kind in which the detaching- rollers rotate continuously, the fibre passes from the lap between an intermittently rotated roller p, Fig. 2, and a lap-feed plate 9 to the detaching-rollers 29, s, and to intermittently-rotated piecing-rollers 31, 11, which always rotate in the same direction. The lap-feed plate extends the length of the combing-head, and is formed with a flat vertical portion 21 and a backwardly turned lower lip 22, the inner surface of which is concentric with the feed-roller p. The feedroller p is mounted on a shaft 13, Fig. 5, and is driven from the main shaft d by gearing f, g and a pin 16 on a disk 15 which engages with a star-wheel 17 and imparts intermittent rotation to it, and through it to the shaft 13. A similar stud and star-wheel arrangement operated from the shaft h is used to impart intermittent motion to the piecing-roller 11. The detaching-roller s is driven continuously from the shaft h, on which the disk 15 is mounted by toothed gearing. The rollers 29, 31 are pressure rollers.
