Abstract

26,913. Parsons, R. C. Nov. 19. Setting and alining turbines and shafts; clearing rotors of fibrous materials.-Injury to the impellers of centrifugal pumps &c., or to the rotors of outward-flow turbines, by solid or fibrous matter is prevented by a vertically adjustable plate g, Fig. 4, which co-operates with the edges of the blades d to chop up such deleterious material. A web k prevents solid matter from lodging against the shearing-plate g. An exterior shearing-plate 6, Fig. 2, forms part of the walls of the outlet c, and co-operates with the outside edges of the blades d. The plate 6 is made of such strength that will break under a shock insufficient to injure the impeller blades. To take up wear on the impeller blades, the shaft f, Fig. 5, is axially adjustable. The thrust collar 10 is formed integral with a sleeve 11, adjustably mounted upon the shaft f. The application of the invention to pumps &c. of the kind with overhung blades is described. Alternative methods of adjusting the shearing- plate g are described.
