Abstract
26,190. Downs, C., Bellwood, R. A., and Rose, Downs, & Thompson. Nov. 10. Rotary-mould-table machines.-Relates to machines for pressing cattle food &c. into small blocks. The table a, Fig. 3, is rotated intermittently by Geneva-stop gearing b<1> and is locked, when stationary, by spring rollers f engaging recesses a‹. A dual arrangement of feeding, pressing and discharging devices is described. Feed-shoots communicating with a mixing-vessel terminate in fillers c, Fig. 4, provided at their lower ends with feed-heads c<3> formed with perforations c<4>, which co-operate with an adjustable, apertured, valve g to control the feed. Within each filler c is mounted a spindle c' carrying mixing-arms c<2>, which, together with the feed-head c<3>, is oscillated by means of a crank h<0>, Fig. 3, acting through a link h<3>. The opposite feed-heads are connected by a link c<6>. Pressure is applied by plungers d<0>, Fig. 2, carried by cross-heads d<1> which are reciprocated by eccentrics j. The pressure is regulated, without stopping the machine, by adjusting the stroke of the plungers by altering the throw of the eccentrics through the medium of eccentric sleeves j<2>, furnished with worm wheels meshing with worms k<1> operable by hand gearing k<0>, k. To avoid straining the pins d<2>, the lower ends of the eccentric rods j‹, bear upon thrust-blocks n. The plungers are cleaned by stripping-plates m, Fig. 1<a>, which are held down, during the withdrawal of the plungers, by springs m<1>, and are subsequently raised by the cross-heads d<1> engaging with nuts m<2> or rods m'. A fixed plate o, Fig. 2, forms the bottom of the moulds during pressing and any material squeezed out by the plungers is removed from the plate o by spring-pressed scrapers p, Fig. 7, let into recesses on the underside of the table a, and from the underside of the table by fixed scrapers. The pressed cakes are discharged from the moulds by ejectors e<1>, Fig. 1<a>, carried by heads e attached to spindles e<2> which are slidably mounted in brackets e<0> and are reciprocated by levers e<3> pivoted to the spindles at e<4>, to fixed brackets e<6> at e<5> and to the eccentric rods j<0> at e<7>. The moulds are formed in interchangeable shouldered disks let into the table and secured by screws. The discharged cakes pass away through shoots q, Fig. 2.
