Abstract
24,754. Cross, F. L. Oct. 25. Pressure-regulating valves.-Relates to a gasregulator for obtaining a constant volume of flow, in which the control is effected by the velocities of flow at two different points in the conduit acting on the diaphragm of an auxiliary valve. The throttling-valve 3, Fig. 1, is operated by a bell 4, to which gas is admitted from the conduit 1 through a pipe 6. This pipe has a funnel-shaped mouth 7 disposed at the inlet to the Venturi tube 1, 2, and turned to face the incoming fluid, and is connected to an auxiliary valve 16. The diaphragm 10, or its equivalent, is subject on the underside to the pressure at 7, and on the upper side to the pressure of an adjustable spring 17 and the pressure at the neck 2 of the Venturi tube conveyed by a pipe 12 having its mouth 13 turned in the direction of flow. A three-way cock 19 in the pipe 6 is normally open, but is operatively connected to a gate-valve 20 so as to be shut off when the latter valve is closed. The Venturi tube 1, 2 may be dispensed with, the Venturi ' tube effect ' being produced by incidental reductions in the size of the main, or by turns or elbows therein being utilized.
