Pistons.-The piston 2, shown applied to a brake apparatus, but applicable also for hydraulic riveting or other machinery, is packed by a cup-leather 10, and a flexible sleeve 3, supported by metal rings 4. The piston-rod is formed with a cylindrical portion 11 working in a guide 23 formed on the cylinder cover. The edge of the flexible sleeve 3 is gripped between the plate 2 and the end of the cylinder 11. The apparatus shown is for transmitting liquid pressure to brake cylinders, and has a screw by which the piston is operated. In the cylinders operating the brake shoes, the guide 23 projects into the interior of the cylinder. The piston is provided with a rod having a limiting stop.
