Abstract
19,140. Roessler, G. P. Aug. 15. Rowing - apparatus. - Bow - facing oars are hinged longitudinally at their loom ends so that they may be feathered. A vertical post j, Fig. 6, is hinged at k to a mast which slopes towards the stern of the boat. An inverted V-shaped bar z, Figs. 2 and 6, is pivoted at i to the vertical post, and the oars b are hinged at f to the carrying-bar z, the hinges making a small angle with the axis of the oar. Fig. 6 shows the oars in a feathering position, the upward movement of the oar round the hinge f being limited by a stop on the upper side of the carrying-bar z. During the working stroke, the edge of the oar is pressed against the side of the carrying-bar.
