Type-wheel actions for machines of the class in which the typewheel slides for impression, and the key - levers actuate linkage for (1) rotating the type-wheel to positions determined by stops on the key-levers projected into the path of a rack advanced by the type-wheel gearing, and (2) advancing the type-wheel for impression. The key-levers co-operate with a slide having a graduated series of contact rolls. In the machine shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the keyboard is in two sections, each with a slide 27, and the keys are arranged in groups of three, the keylevers 37 converging rearwardly and having angular rear ends forming stops 40 for co-operation with a stop-rack 34 driven by the typewheel pinion 12. The outer stop 40 of each group of three is extended to engage the slide 27, and the two inner key-levers of the group of three overlap the outer key-lever. to effect operation of the slide 27 by the outer stop. The slides 27 are provided with adjustable antifriction guides 28, and the contact rolls 43 are mounted on a common axis in parallel guideways 41 for the outer stops 40. Rotary movement is imparted from either slide 27 to the type-wheel 14 through a connecting-rod 26, link 23, and a vibrator 19 provided with a toothed segment 21 engaging with the typewheel pinion 12. The links 23 are pivoted to swinging arms 24 on the framing. The connecting-rods 26 are adjustable in length and can be attached to the links 23 at various holes 26<c>. The vibrator 19 is pivoted on the type-wheel slide 8 and provided with arms 22 pivoted to the links 23. The slide 8 receives an initial advance by the engagement of one arm 22 against a cam-face 25 on a plate 9, and is finally advanced by the further movement of the slide 27 after engagement of the parts 34, 40. A spring returns the slide 8 and connected parts.
