Slide valves; arrangement and disposition of valves.-In a tandem two-cylinder single-acting steam-engine having exhaust ports at the ends of the cylinders controlled by the pistons, the cylinders are separated by a transverse partition, at the sides of which the inlet valves are arranged external to the cylinder. Fig. 2 shows the application to a compound engine, i, m being the high and low pressure admission valves respectively, and k, n the exhaust ports.
