Abstract
15,856. Berkel, J. C. van. July 2. Cutting and slicing meat.-Relates to meatslicing machines in which the meat is fed forward automatically, and is cut by a rotating circular knife which is moved through a curvilinear path, the knife being so made or arranged relatively to the table that it only comes in contact with the meat at its cutting-edge. The circular knife b is rotated by chain gearing h, h<1>, h<2> from a shaft d, which is driven through bevel-gearing f from a hand-wheel g<1> or motor. The knife is mounted on a gear case 25 pivoted concentrically with the shaft d and oscillated by an arm 32, connecting-rod 33, and crankdisk 34 from a shaft 14, which is driven by toothed gearing 38, 39, from the shaft d. The intermediate wheel 38 can be slid out of gear so that the knife can be rotated without oscillating in order to sharpen it. The knife sharpening device may be that described in Specification 7780/08, [Class 60, Grinding or abrading &c.], and is mounted on the fixed standard or knife case 36. The meat is clamped to the inclined table 3 which is fed forward automatically by cam, ratchet, and screw mechanism driven by the shaft 14.
