Abstract

Lids.-The lid of a copper for boiling clothes is furnished with a rubber ring for making a tight joint and may be furnished with hooks L<1>, Fig. 3, engaging with screws I, so that the lid can be pressed down by means of wing-nuts on the screws. The lid may be of elliptical form, so as to be passed through the opening of the hopper and held up by a pivoted bar B<1>, Fig. 4; or it may be pressed down on its seating by a bar similar to B' passing under wedge-shaped projections in the copper.
