10,966. Dressler, C. May 3. Enamelling.-Tiles, bricks, metal sheets, &c. are coated with liquid enamel by means of whirling spraying-nozzles q. The tiles &c. are delivered on to an inclined plane, either by hand or by an endless conveyer, and slide down the plane on knife-edge wheels g to a chain conveyer d. The conveyer d carries the tiles with their edges in contact beneath the nozzles q and delivers them over rollers c to a second conveyer e, which moves more quickly than the conveyer d and consequently causes the tiles to become spaced apart. Guide-wheels may be arranged to engage the sides of the tiles during their movement, but are unnecessary if the tiles have recessed backs. The elevator used comprises two opposing chain carriers i, fitted with ledges j supporting the tiles, a rotating brush k being arranged above the elevator to move the tiles on to the plane g. The liquid enamel is supplied to the spraying-nozzles through a pipe p from a closed reservoir m, into which compressed air is injected through a perforated ring s. The compressed air agitates the liquid and passes off through a pipe o to the spraying-nozzles. A vent valve t permits the air to escape from the reservoir when the sprayers are not in use. The surplus enamel is collected in a trough or troughs u arranged beneath the carrier d, and may be removed or returned to the reservoir m from time to time.
