Abstract

Variable-speed toothed gearing. - Continuouslyvariable gearing comprises a conical toothed wheel A with wide teeth across which an ordinary toothed wheel B is moved to vary the speed. The teeth are of uniform pitch and consequently a portion of the cone A is without teeth or is provided with teeth extending only a fraction of the length of the cone as shown in interrupted lines in Fig. 1. To ensure continuity of transmission, two wheels B are provided slidable upon shafts B<1> of triangular section arranged parallel to the surface of the cone A and connected by gearing C, D to a driven shaft D<1>. The gears B are moved together by suitable means. To prevent shocks, the gears C are connected to the shafts B<1> by springs C<2> residing between projections C' upon the gears and radial arms B<5> upon the shafts. The variable toothed gearing may be internal to the cone A. One gear such as B may be combined with two or more cones such as A. The gears B do not need to have movable teeth as described in Specification 7447/10.
